Aberdeen Photographer: Photography in Action - Why Entrepreneurs and Professionals Need It More Than Ever / by Leticia Gaidon Bradford

Photography in action is not about staged perfection. On the contrary, it’s about showing movement, intention, and presence. It captures people doing what they actually do: thinking, creating, leading, interacting. And that makes it one of the most powerful visual tools for entrepreneurs and professionals today.

Photography in action brings something different: credibility, trust, and human connection.

What Is Photography in Action?

Photography in action refers to images captured while you are actively working, not posing for the camera, but engaging in your profession.

This can include:
• entrepreneurs in meetings or planning sessions
• professionals working at their desk or on location
• behind-the-scenes moments of a business in motion
• interaction with clients, teams, or tools
• clients interacting with your products

These images can be intentional, not accidental. They are guided, well composed, and strategically shot, but they feel natural because the focus is on doing, not performing.

Another approach is to be present during natural interactions, where the photographer acts as a witness, capturing real moments as they unfold.

I have worked using both approaches. In the first option, the key skill of the photographer is being an effective guide, helping the person understand the mood and message without over-performing. In candid situations, the photographer must be hyper-focused, ready to capture subtle expressions and the atmosphere of the room with honesty. This allows us to see the different personalities within a business and the rhythm of daily work.

From a visual branding perspective, photography in action communicates how you work, not just who you are.

Why Photography in Action Is So Important for Personal Branding

People don’t only buy services or expertise. They buy confidence, competence, and energy.

Seeing someone in action activates a different psychological response in the viewer. The brain reads movement and purpose as signals of capability. When we see a professional focused, engaged, and in their element, we subconsciously trust them more.

Static portraits answer the question: “Who is this person?”

Photography in action answers a deeper one: “Can I trust this person to do the work?”

For entrepreneurs and professionals, that distinction is critical.

The Psychological Impact on the Viewer

From a psychological perspective, action-based imagery creates what is known as contextual credibility. The viewer doesn’t have to imagine you at work, they can see it.

Images of people working, thinking, or interacting:
• reduce perceived distance
• increase relatability
• build authority without arrogance

Behind-the-scenes photography also activates curiosity. It invites the viewer into your world, making them feel included rather than sold to.

There is also an important emotional layer: when people see you busy, focused, and present in your work, they perceive momentum. Momentum signals success, stability, and reliability, qualities every business wants to communicate.

Why “Behind the Scenes” Builds Trust Faster Than Perfection

Highly polished images can sometimes feel distant or intimidating. Photography in action softens that barrier.

Behind-the-scenes images communicate a deeper message:
• effort beyond performance
• process beyond results
• humanity beyond perfection

This is especially powerful for professionals who want to appear approachable while still maintaining authority. It tells your audience: this is real, this is how I work, and this is what you can expect. It shows the story behind the service or product they consume.

Trust grows faster when people understand your process.

How to Use Photography in Action in Social Media and Marketing

Photography in action is incredibly versatile and effective across platforms.

You can use these images for:
• Instagram posts and carousels
• LinkedIn content for professional positioning
• website banners and “About” pages
• blogs, newsletters, and PR features
• marketing materials and presentations

On social media, these images perform well because they feel less promotional and more narrative-driven. They tell a story instead of demanding attention.

In marketing, action photography helps potential clients visualise themselves working with you, which shortens decision-making time and builds confidence before the first conversation even happens.

What Photography in Action Says About Your Business

Every image sends a message, whether intentional or not.

Photography in action communicates:
• professionalism without stiffness
• confidence without ego
• clarity in your role and expertise

It shows that your business is active, evolving, and grounded in real work. For entrepreneurs and professionals, this signals maturity and reliability.

It also positions you as someone who is in motion, not waiting to be chosen.
