As a business owner, you are visually communicating who you are, what your business represents, and how you want people to feel when they find you online. Before someone speaks to you, books your service, or sends an enquiry, they are already building an opinion based on your visual presence. And people notice more than you think. They notice if your images look professional. Good branding photography helps people trust you faster because they can see the person behind the business. It also gives you confidence to show up online consistently instead of struggling to find content every week. ⭐️Ageing & Portraits⭐️ Ageing is another of the biggest reasons people avoid being photographed. Some people miss how they used to look, and they don’t feel photogenic anymore. Like tulips, people are usually photographed in their splendour, but as an avid gardener, I find the most beautiful and interesting images of tulips when they are “ageing”. We live in a world obsessed with youth and often eliminate something important: beauty that comes from character, resilience, and individuality. And for that reason, so many people become uncomfortable with the natural changes of life that they stop allowing themselves to be seen. We can’t pretend to be in our 20s forever. Portrait photography is a document that registers how you evolve, and part of that evolution is gaining more elegance and sophistication in your clothing choices because you now have a stronger sense of personal identity and style. Another gain with age is your natural presence and authority, which provide depth to your portrait. Ageing should not make you disappear from your own story. Some of the most powerful portraits I ever created were not about youth. They were about presence, confidence, resilience, experience, and identity. Balancing business, family, and life is messy and non-stop. As freelancers and entrepreneurs, we can sometimes feel quite isolated, so it’s important to spend time with like-minded people. One of the biggest fears around getting professional headshots is investing money and ending up with an image you don’t like. So many people avoid taking action and keep using an unprofessional photo for their business or professional profile instead. But how many opportunities, connections, and even income are lost because of that inaction? Years ago, I was on the other side of the hiring process while working as a secretary in an accounting firm. I saw CVs being judged in seconds, and the first thing people noticed was the profile image attached to them. It was eye-opening to see how harsh first impressions can be. Like it or not, people judge professionalism, confidence, and trustworthiness visually first. The good news is that your image is something you can improve and take control of. A strong portrait gives yourself the opportunity to be seen the way you truly are.
